Electric does not mean maintenance-free

Removing a combustion engine changes the task list, not the need to look after the motorcycle. A Sur-Ron still uses tires, brake wear parts, suspension, and bearings. Checking them is part of enjoying a bike whose condition you understand.

Before riding: notice changes

Walk around the bike under the conditions specified in its manual. Look at tires, controls, brakes, and visible drivetrain components. Use pressure guidance appropriate to your model and riding rather than a number found for a different motorcycle.

An unusual control feel, leak, looseness, or new noise deserves attention before riding. The useful habit is recognizing changes, not routinely taking everything apart. Use a qualified technician when the cause or correct procedure is unclear.

After riding: clean without forcing water inside

Remove dirt according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Sur-Ron’s FAQ advises against immersion and explains that pressure can force water through protective seals. A water-resistance statement is not permission to aim a powerful jet at connectors, seals, or bearings.

Follow recommended drying and storage conditions. Check protective parts and exposed areas after a fall. A normal exterior does not establish that an impacted battery is safe to use; contact appropriate support when there is doubt.

Keep a simple service record

Record dates, use, checks, and work performed, alongside invoices. This helps distinguish gradual wear from a problem appearing after a particular ride. It also supports workshop discussions and a possible future sale.

Before buying, ask who performs service, which parts are available, and likely lead times. Include consumables and service in the budget even for an electric bike. A seller who can explain the schedule and diagnostic process provides more useful information than a vague promise of effortless ownership.

Keep the routine aligned with the manual and actual riding. A muddy session and a short dry ride do not stress every component in the same way. Manufacturer guidance and workshop advice help adapt the maintenance plan.
